Becoming a Changemaker

What does it take to become a Changemaker? What are the common characteristics and experiences of young people who go on to become Changemakers? Can students learn to become agents of change in their lives, schools, communities and world? Please check out some common characteristics of the Changemakers we researched in the section below: 

Characteristics

Born with a condition and made a campaign.

Commonalities between our Changemakers

-Paloma Rambana Born with a visual impairment and made a campaign to help blind kids.

-Zachary Rice born with a bone disease and he made a 5k fun run to help raise money for kids.

Helped other people who had the same struggle as him/her.

- Zachary Rice helped donate video games because it helped distract the pain.

-Louis Braille created a way for blind people like him to read and write.

-Jaylen Arnold was bullied for his birth defects but he used these experiences to spread awareness through videos

Fixed a problem for the community.

-William Kakwamba made a windmill for his village to generate power.

-Cassandra Lin helped stop climate change because her city could go underwater because of it.

Helped a certain group of people.

-Marley Dias wanted to help fund books to colored girls around the world.

-Paloma Rambana wanted to help kids 6-13 with visual impairments.

Helped animals/wildlife.

-Mikaila Ulmer wanted to help bees because she realized that the population of bees were decreasing.

-Greta Thunberg wanted to help stop climate change because the water would become too warm for some animals and kill them off.

Created a business/ invention to support a cause.

-William Kamkwamba created a windmill to give his village some extra energy

-Mikaila Ulmer created a business that donated some of the profits to foundations that wanted to save honey bees

Wanted to make a difference and were passionate about it

Everyone on the list had found and solved or improved a problem with passion driving them.
